(from our own correspondent). Now that the session is over, we are awaiting the promised visit of the Minister of Lands through our distriot. One is almost tempted to wish that it might rain continuously till he comes, so that.on his trip down the East Road he might see what our back settlers have to put up with. The Library and Reading-room was opened with a dance on Friday evening last. There were a great many present, and the affair passed off very successfully. The Library Committee, I understand, are taking over. Mr. Hoddsr'ti library. , Mr,. J. R. Mackay has been appointed Taranaki agent for the Boston (United States) Sohool of Correspondence, the object of which is, 1 believe, to give young men instruction in engineering through the medium of the pott, At the last meeting of the Borough Council, one of the Councillors complained of theremissnessof the Banger in impounding stray animals. Next morning a pony belonging to that Councillor was found in the pound, and he felt that he owed the Ranger an apology!
