[m nam uaoounov.] Domdii, October 19, Robert Burn*, assistant guard, wm killed near Gaversham late on Wed M- * night. He wm ran over by the [van on the train coming from Moegiel to Dunedin. No one on the train saw the accident happen, bat it Li thought Burns must have slipped between the reir van and the next carriage when going forward to apply the brake. The van gave a bump as if some obstruction was on the line, and wm thrown off. On search being made, when the traia won stopped, the body was found badly mutilated, the wheels having gone over tho man's legs and stomach. John Hislop, watchmaker end jewel* lor, died suddenly in his shop in Itancess-street to-day. He m 69 years of age and an old resident William Williams, miner, working in a claim at the Cambrians, wm buried by a fall of earth and killed. Aooklajtd, October 19.
At the inquest in connection with the tram-car accident, resulting in the death of John Brown, a verdict of " Accidental death " was returned, a* blame being attachable to the cardriver.
