ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
[PBH PBBB3 ASSOCIATION.] Pp Feilding, October 1. Mr. A. R. Cox, a well-known Rangitikei resident, was drowned in the Bangitawa stream, at Halcombe, on Saturday, The body was found yesterday. Wktpobt, October 1. * When the Haupiri was off Bocks Point at 3.45 this morning the purser noticed a silver watch and chain, 19s. 6d. in silver, and some papers lying on the after hatch. He found they belonged to Mr. John Snewden, a saloon passenger bound from Nelson to Greymouth. Search for Snowdeu was unavailing, and it is supposed he committed suicide by jumping overboard. It is understood that Snowden was a brewer at Greymouth. Duhedej, October 1. An inquest was held touching the death of William Allen, who fell down the hold of the s.s. Waimate on Satur- . day, foiling 35 feet. The evidence showed that the deceased was climbing np a ladder from the hold when he lost his hold. It was a cold day, and he had oilskins on. It is surmised he must have trod on his oilskin when near tie top of the ladder. The jury returned a verdict of Accidental Death, no blame being attachable to anyone.
