Wellington, September 20. The following is the full text of the motion passed by both Houses of the Legislature in reply to the intimation from the Secretary of State of the intended visit of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York:— Most Gracious Sovereign. —We Your Majesty's most dutiful and loyal subjects, the members of both Houses of the Parliament of New Zealand have heard, with sincere pleasure, that their Royal Highnefses the Duke and Duchess of York intend to visit Australasia next year for the purpose of opening the first Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia and we desire to express our unfeigned pleasure and gratitude for Her Gracious Majesty's assent to parting with her beloved grandson for the extended period which must elapse ere he returns to the Mother Country. We are delighted to be able to congratulate their Eoyal Highnesses on being representatives of Her Majesty the Queen on the great occasion of the founding of the new Commonwealth by the Federation in one indissoluble union of the sister colonies of Australia. We are pleased in knowing that, circumstances which prevented their Eoyal Highnesses accepting the invitation tendered to them in 1897, to visit the colony, have been removed, and we wish to assure their Royal Highnesses that in no part of the British Empire will they receive a more cordial and enthusiastic welcome than is this colony, which though the most distant from the Mother
Country, has the honour of being tbe first colony founded during Her Majesty's reign. The people of both races of New Zealand will indeed bs glad to welcome their Royal Highnesses to these shores, and every effort will be made by them to make the visit of their Royal Highnesses enjoyable.
