tion, Her Majesty the Quean has been pleased to assent to the Duke and Duchess of York visiting Australia in the spring of 1901, The Duke af York will be commissioned to open tlxj Kderal Parliament. *- While shrinking from the long parting from her grandson, the Queen recognises the greatness of the occasion for securing Federal union, and desires to give some special proof of her interest in all concerning the welfare of her Australasian subjects. She also wishes to signify her sense of the loyally and devotion prompting the spontaneous aid so liberally ottered by all the colonies in the South African War and the splendid gallantry , of the troops that were sent. ] Her assent to the visit is given on the assumption that the date of departure and circumstances generally will be as favourable as at present and that there are no national interests calling for the Duke of York's presence in England.
