HOCKEY.
[Notes by Bully,]
The locTil exponents of this increasingly popular game met for a practico on the Kacecour. eon Thursday afternoon. In spite of the frequent sliowers of rain, there was a good muster of the membors, in view of the forthcoming match with the Hawera Club, to. be played at Hawera, next Thursday. Sides wero picked by the capt tin and vice-captain, the former's side eventually winning by 7 goals to (i. The loser's side played a more open game than the winner's, their flue passing showing a decided improvement on former play. Two of the forwards on the captain's side dillydally with the ball too much, instead of hitting out boldly. Tiie backs on both sides played a sure game, and tho;e picked to play Hawera next Thursday ! should givd a good account of-them-selves. A very noticeable defee; in nearly all the players is their want of a thorough knowledge of the rules, causing unnecessary delay in' deciding them, Tho willing sorvieo* of th;< referee, Mr. Parker, wore mush appreciated by the {'la} ers, although their ignorance of the rules made his duties extremely arduous. .By a private telegram received last night, I notico that the Wungamii rep. hockey t am are " no class," Hawera defea ing it by 6 goals to 2.
