(Received 27, 8.45 a.m.) London, August 26. In order to enable Commandant Dt Wet to cross the Potchefstroom railway line into Orange Kiver Colony unobserved. Commandant De La Key surrounded a body of City of London Imperial Volunteers, who formed the garrison at Banks railway station, and summoned them to surrender. Lord Albemarle, who was commanding, refused to surrender. Lord Roberts is now at Wonderfontein, almost the extreme front of the British advance along the Delagoa Bay railway line. General Pole-Carew has occupied Belfast, a few miles east of Wonderfontein, unopposed. Tie Boers hold the mountain ridges between Belfast and Dalmanatha, further east on the railway line. Lord Kitchener is at Pretoria, and Lord Methuen at Zeerust, where he is in touch with General Carrington. HOW CARDNA MET HIS DOOM. Received 27, 81.6 a.m. London, August 26. Cardna met his death coolly. Seated in a ebair facing tbe garden wall of the gaol, the condemned man folded his Arms quietly and informed the firing party that he was ready. Cardna fell pierced by ten bullets, ENEMY STRONGLY ENTRENCHED AT BELFAST. I (Received 28,0.20 a.m.) | London, August 27. Lord Roberts, at Belfast, reconnoitred the enemy's potitipns which extend 25 miles on Spurs confronted with morasses. They also occupy an entrenched stronghold along the high ridge extending 8000 yards eastward. ENGAGEMENT NEAR BELFAST. RAILWAY BLOWN UP. BOERS CAPTURED, Received 28, 0.20 a.m. London, August 27. General Buller, seven miles south of Belfast, replied'to the enemy's shells on Saturday. Lord Roberts holds some ridges east of Belfast. The railway line has been exploded near Krugersdorp. General Hamilton, at Fiennars Station, captured 13 Boers and a number of carts, also a quantity of stock, IN NATAL. BOER RAIDS. Received 27, 8.45 a.m London, August 26. A body of 700 Boers, from the Vryleid and Utrecbt districts, are contantly raiding in Natal. A lively kirmish, in which both sides suffered averely, was fought at Ingagane, ten ailes south of Newcastle. CASUALTIES. Received 27, 8.4S a.m. London, August 26. J. C. McLaan, a New Zealander, ras slightly wounded at Ottoshoop, new zealanFcontingents. THE RETURNED INVALIDS. PRAISE OF HOSPITAL TREATMENT. Wellington, August 27. Corporal Hadfield who returned by he Gothic writes to the Post, stating hat he spent thirteen weeks in the iVoodatock Hospital and he was tended nd cared for by all as if he had been n his own home. He is loud in his iraises of the work done by Dr. Acland nd Nurse Rowley of South Canterbury.
