, [PUB FBHBS ASSOCIATION.] Westpoot, August 27. Gilbert Bros.' jeweller's shop was burned down this morning, and was almost a total loss. The adjoining buildings were damaged. Tne origin is a mystery. Insurance: Tools, £SO; stock, £550. | Waimate, August 26. 1 A serious fire occurred at 3 a.m. yesterday, the library buildings being burned down. They were partly used as the Army barracks and as a furniture shop. The Times office building, a substantial wooden structure which was once a public aohool, was also burned. The Times had just restarted after beiDg burnvd out a month ago. The fire is supposed to have originated in the reading room. Insurance on the printing plant is £200; library, £400; Moore's stock, mostly saved, for £SO. The Salvation Army is insured in the head office. The loss over insurance is considerable.
