OUR RAILWAYS.

In the House on Friday, the Hon. J. G. Ward, Minister for Railways, submitted his first annual report on the railways. The hon. gentleman, in a long report (which the tax on our space will not permit of publishing), detailed the various reductions made in the passenger and cargo fares ; and in conclusion said: —" I estimate the revenue for the year ending 31st March, 1901, at £1,500,000, and the expenditure at £1,046,000."
