OWN CORRESPONDENTS.
TO THE EDITOR, Sir, —It is with regret your Waitara readers will notice that for the second time you have been unfortunate in the choos'ng ©f a correspondent. Some time ago, the then " our oTn," with an evident intention of doing some one an injury, made statements about the school management which were proved by the Comraiiteo to be misrepresentations, and tomp correspondence (just now I forget the nature of it) was written by the Committee, clearly showing the falsity of the report as sent by your correspondent. Since that time no Waitara news has appeared from that gentleman, but on Saturday, under the heading of Waitara news, appears what is purported to be a meeting of the Town Board, This meeting took place on the provi-! ous Monday, aDd it has taken nearly n week to hatch the so-called report of the meeting. If you wish to give the public a fair, full, and impartial account of meeting?, why not appoint some one that can be depended on to do so, and not a man with an axe to grind. The so-called report is nothing but an electioneering dodge, a fact that is patent to everyone, and your paper is to be made the cat's paw of for such purpose. A good deal more than appeared in your columns took plaoe at the meeting, but some one is very anxious to show that there is only about one man on the Board able to conduct the business, therefore, he quotes that man's few qr.iss remarks j and endeavours to belittle other members, one of whom was evidently exasperated into saying a big D., and very quietly overlooks all other business that occurred. The attempt to disguise the objent of the report is so thin that it will hardly bear touching, and it is to be hoped that you will in future, be furnished with reports of public matters in "Waitara without bias,—l am, etc., Pao Bono Publico.
i Waitara, July 11th, 1900. | Our Waitara correspondent evidently showed considerable discrimination in not inflicting a report of the whole of the proceedings of the WaiTown Board on our readers and is probably entitled to the'r gratitude for so doing, " Pro Bono Publico's" ether remarks enn be safely left to our own correspondent to deal with.—Ed.
