LAND SALE AT STRATFORD. The Stratford Courthouse was packed on Thursday, during the Crown land sale of township sections, settlers from all parts of the surrounding district being present. The Commissioner (Mr. Strauchon) sold the sections in their numerical order on the plan, and was assisted by Messrs. Doile and Bannister, all being kept busily employed for two or three hours. The i top price was obtained for a section for which the upset price was £2O, but realised £is. Another section put up! at £l 2 10s was the subject of much spirited bidding, one competitor jumping £5 to the answering £l's, and eventually it was knocked down at £3B. Altogether the average is well over fifty per cent, advance on the upset prices, and even then, in comparison with prices current for sections, the purchasers for the most part consider thay have obtained their sections at reasonable prices. Several Mangamingi sections were sold at the upset price.
