THE ATTEMPT TO RELIEVE THE BLAND'S BIVBB GARRISON.

COLONEL HOARE'S FORCE SAFE. Received 16, 9.30 a.m. London, August 15. The Daily News's Pretoria correspondent says that Colonel Hoare's column, which included some Australian Bush- *■ men, is safe with a convoy of a thousand waggons, though some casualties occurred. One of President Kruger's sons was captured in the Rustenburg district. Mr. Bennett Burleigh, the war correspondent, visited Belfast and met Commandant General Botha and Commandant Viljoen. He reports that ' eight thousand Boers are strongly posted in the bills at Bothamly, north of Belfast. The enemy have plenty of guns, though the} are demoralised. They are indulging in wholesale looting.

A BRITISH PATROL RELIEVED, (Received 16, 5 p.m.) London, August 15. Two squadrons of the Victorian Mounted Infantry, under Colonel Baker, relieved a British patrol which was surrounded near Mafeking by a strong body of Boers. The Victorians had two casualties.

GENERAL CABRINGTON TO RETURN TO ZEERUST. London, August 16. After traversing the worst stretch of road, General Carrington has been ordered to return forthwith to Zeerust. General Hamilton has been instructed to assist Colonel Hoare, whose garrison is still resisting. The casual- j tics are 67.

CABLE FROM AGENT-GENERAL. Wmmxgton, August 16. The Hon. W. P. Reeves cabled to the Premier under date 15th, 11.40 p.m.:—" Lord Roberts reports that the small force at Eland's River Station, which was reported captured, was Tiolding out on the 10th. There had been sixty-seven casualties. A Queensland lieutenant was the only officer tilled."
