ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(PBB PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, August 14. Rev. R. Ooates, head master of the Newton East School, accidentally took arsenical poisoning at his home, on Epeom Road, and died early this morning. Lateb. Ooates left a note stating that he had taken poison, and asking his wife to forgive bim, adding that he must be insane,
FURTHER PARTICULARS. The Rev. R. Ooates, headmaster ot Newton Eist school for the past sixteen years, died this morning, the supposed cause being arsenical poisoning. During the night Mr Ooates rose from his bed, and subsequently aweke hU wife and informed her that he had taken poison. A paper which hid contained poison for rats was found on the floor, and also on the floor was a Board of Education circular with the following written on the back:—" God forgive me! I must ba insane. Forgive me, my darling wife." Mr Ocates wat well known and the news of his death caused a sensation.
