TRADING STAMPS.
DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER. (.PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, July 23. A deputation of tradesmen in favour of the abolition of " trading stamps " waited on the Premier to-day. Mr. Collins, M.H.R., suggested that the Bill should contain a provision making the issue of a colourable imitation of cheques or bank notes illegal. It was stated that the Trading Stamp Company consisted of only one man, and he had made a profit of £3OOO in eighteen months. The Premier said he proposed to enable small purchasers to participate in discounts. He believed it to be to the interest of purchaser and seller and that it would tend to abolish the objectionable credit system. He proposed that all trades adopting the system should be registered and deposit a sum of .£lO as a guarantee that purchasers would be paid the discount and in cash only. If the deputation approved he would draft a Bill ac; jrdingly.
