|PER PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, July ] 9. At the Police Court, a case came up i under the Employment of JJoyB and Without Payment Prevention (Act. The case was against Mrs. Gill, who was charged with having received a premium as a consideration for the employment of a girl under 18 years. The contention for the defence was that the girl was not employed in the same way as other girls. Mis. Gill rec ived a ptemium of £2 to teach the girl millinery in three months. The «irl could come when she liked and go when she liked. Mr Carew, S.M., said the arrangement appeared to him to be a device to overcome the provisions of the Act. The wo.k the girl did was for the benefit cf Mrs. Gill, who allotted her what f he was to do. He had considerable doubt about a girl being ablej to come and go as she pleased.
