STAR 111. V. TDKAPA 111. The above teams met in the Recreation Grounds on Thursday afternoon. There was a large attendance of spectators, and great- interest was taken in the game, the result of which deoided tht> contest for the cup, The ground was not in very good condition, the recent heavy weather having had a soddening effect. The play throughout was of a most exciting nature, both Hides sxerting themselves to the utmost, Tukapi bad rather the best of the play, and in the first spell T. Petty scored one of the prettiest tries over seen on the ground. Taking the ball at about centre, he eluded several of thi Star backs, and fending off the full-back scored. The kick at goal was abortive. The second spell was not remarkable for anything of a sensational nature. Petty stood out abova all others on th« field, his play beiDg very neat. He ran well, kicked well, and collared splendidly. For the winners, Harvey, H. Clock, McAra, Honeyfield, Glynes, and Sarten played well, and for the Stare Pycrofr, Frewin, Hoskin, and Setford were most conspicuous. Mr. H. Sutton, of Hawera, made a most impartial referee, and bis decisions gave the, utmost satisfaction. Tho touch-judges were Messrs, S idler and W. VVood The win gives the Tukapas the cup,
STAR 11. V. TUKAPAII.' | Immediately after the match between the thirds, the above teams took' the field. One of the most exciting games seen this season eventuated, the play being fast throughout, and the only blot on the gamo was tho hostility shown to one another by some of the rival players. The match ended in a win for the Stars by five points to nil, and places them as tho champion team of tho Northern Division. They will now have to play off with Okniawa, who are champions of the Southern Division. The gamo was mostly a forward ono, Tui;npas attacked strongly from tho start, and passing runs by Maclean and Barrett greatly harassed the Stars,'who, however, defended well. Maclean had very hard luck in not scoring, as, taking a neat j ass by Barrett, he kicked and, following up smartly, got to within a couple of yards of the line, Thoro was no score in the first spell. In the second half, the play was fast and furious, both sides trying all they knew to i-core. Sho tlj beforo i nil of time, George passed neatlj to Richardson, who scored an easy try. George took the kick, and placed a goal. There was no"' further score On the Star side, Ho k played the best game in the backs. K. George was very smart behind the scrums, and Richardson a; three-quarter also played well. The best of the forwards were Hook, Eva, and Tohutia. Of the Tukapa backs, Barrett was best, and was well supported by Maclean and Power. Honeyfield at full was very safe. In the forwards, Purdie (wing), Smith, and Duffin were the most prominent. Mr. Sutton again acted as referee, and his decisions gave general satisfaction. Messrs. F. Bellringer and Standish were the touch-judges.
STAR I. V. INGLEWOOD I. The Stars journeyed to Inglewood and, after a good game, came off victors by 10 points to nil. ' Tho New Plymouth nigh School and [ Stratford District High School met on the former's ground on Thursday morn-! ing. The gtuno resulted in an easy win i for the New Plymouth school by 23 points to nil. Mr. S. Humphries! refereed.
