It ia hoped, with the assistance of General Hunter's force from the west, to sever De Wet's Free Staters from Botha's Transvaalers. Lord Boberts praises the marching of General Hamilton's column, which covered 400 miles in 45 day* with ten days' halts and 28 engagements. The Oity of London "Volunteers travelled 500 miles in 51 days, halting for two days, and had 26 engagements. THE BERSTE FABRIEKEN AFFAIR. A SEVERE STRUGGLE. CHARGE OF LANCERS AND HOUSEHOLD OAVALRT. Received 22, 7.30 pjn. London, June 21. Details of the fight at Eerste Fabrieken display splendid generalship. It was a severe struggle. A British battery endeavoured to seize a gap in the enenr/s line, but a body of Boers galloped within 600 yards, dismounted, and raked the battery with a heavy fire. The battery was saved by the 12th Lancers charging. Simultaneously, the Boers attacked the right flank, but fled demoralised when, the Household Cavalry charged them.
