River and the low auriferous Flat on the East bank (about 80 acres;. The Flat has been prospbeted by William Faithful, and by the well-known mining expert, Mr. John Don. As the value of the bottom wash could not be tested without great expense, Mr. Don sank paddocks to the water level ouly, with gratifying lesults, the best piospects reaching 10 grains to the yard. In bis repoit, which is a lengthy one, and may be seen at the office of the Wellington Brokers, be saya: " I should adyisa launching the dredge in the river at the head of the Olaim whtre THERE Id A HIGH RIDGE OF RIOH GOLD-BEARING GRAVEL running inland, 'ibis portion of the Olaim is rich enough to pay splendidly. By starting the dredge at the top end of the Claim where the ground is very good THERE IS NO RISK OF FAILURE aND THERE IS A OERTAINiY OF GETTING GOOD RETURNS FROM THE START." It should be noted that Mr. Don did not attempt to reach the bottom wash (the value of which is therefore unknown), but the excellent returns above mentioned were obtained WITHIN 3 FEET OF THE bURFAOE. Mr. Faithful, of Lindis, tested the ground by boring-rods, &c, and in his report (which may be seen at the Broker's office), states, "The undermentioned is what I got in the Flat:—Bore No. 1, 22 feet 4 inches, 7 grains gold; Bore No. 2,14 feet, 5 grains gold; Paddock, 5 feet deep, 6 x 8,10 grains: Paddock, 7 feet deep, 6 x 4,15 grains. I also sank a well, for water for domestio use, 18 feet, and got good gold. Felix McFelin and Alex Beattie were working in your Claim, and were making OVER £3 PER WEEK PER MAN, box sluicing UNDER BIG DIFFICULTIES in getting clear of their tailings, as the ground was so flat." The Vendors have gone to considerable expense in prospecting the Olaim and obtaining the report of a first-class mining expert, in order to find out definitely the real nature of the ground and its richness. They, however, will take no cash in return, and agree l not to dispose of any paid up shares until the dredge is at work. \ proved, attention is drawn to Mr. Don's statement "THAT THERE IS NO RISK OF FAILURE, AND THERE IS A CERTAINTY OF GETTING GOOD RBTURMS FROM THE START," LETTER FROM ALEX BEATTIE. ME. Biohaed Poison. 7th May, 1900. Dbae Sir,—l am pleased to state that your Claim in Olutha River, situated at Lindis Junction, is well-known to me, and that I am quite sure it will pay splendidly for dredging. I have worked on the banks of your Claim and on my adjoining license for a good number of years, and made from £2 to £4 per week out of the ground by putting the stuff through a foot tluice-box, lifting it sometimes eight and ten feet with a long-handle shovel. lam sure you have a good claim, and one that will la»t and give good returns for many years.—Yours faithfully, Alex Beattie. The Maori Dredge (small and not up-to date) has been working in the vicinity on the river for the last two months. Her returns are as follows: 200z5., 300z5., 25i025. (31 days) ; 47oza. and 28ozs. (for 3 days); 21ozs. and 27ozs. per week. Mr. Wm. Faithful, of Lindis, asks for 200 contributing Bhares to be reserved for him I Mr. Bowie, merchant, Cromwell, takes 50 shares and says: "It is ideal dredging 1 ground and good yields may be expected." I 1000 Shares reserved for Oamaru and Tiraaru, 1000 forJDunedin, 500 for Oromwell. Mr. Payne, the consulting engineer, estimates that a thoroughly equipped modern dredge can be placed\>n the claim at about £6500 ; this enables the capital to kept low, making dividends proportionately high. The cost of incorporation and flotation will be borne by the Company. ' The Vendors' Agreement is dated the 4th day of May, 1900, and is made between Roderick Poison, of the one part, and John Beck Finlay, on behalf of the Company, of the other part, and may be seen at iha office of the Wellington brokers, together with the originals of the reports before referred to. THE COMPANY WILL BE REGISTERED WHEN 5000 SHARES ARE APPLIED FOR. OUUU ,3XIAJVC ' O
