The population of the colony is showa to have increased from 620,058 to 750,506 (exclusive of Alaoi is), and the private wealth (estimated) lrom £142,031,401 to .L217,;>87,481, giving .£2BB per head now, ns against i! 228 in 1801. The value of lands with improvements has increased by 24 7 per cent., deposits in the Post Ollice Savings Bank from .£2,541,876 to £53,207,571; occupiud holdings from £38,178 to £62,485 ; Customs revenue from £1,541,395 to £2,042,002.
