THE GRIQUALAND REBELS.
A SMALL BRITISH FORCE SURPRISED, A COLONEL AND FIFTEEN MEN KILLED. Received 2, 9.20 a.m. London, June 1. Colonel Adye captured a Boer laager a t Kheis, on the Orange River, 120 miles west of Kimberley, defeating the Griqualacd rebels. Five British were killed and twenty wpunded.
A party of rebels at Douglas sue prised a small British force, killing Colonel Bpence and 15 men. | SURRENDER AND DEFEAT OF REBELS I MORE BOER TREACHERY. (Received 3, 6 p.m.) London, June 2. One thousand rebels surrendered to Lieut-General Warren's force. Seven hundred at Paderspruif, near Douglas, were repulsed after a fierce fight. The British lost fifteen, including Colonel Spence (previously mentioned), and thirty wounded. Details of Colonel Adye's action at Kheis show that he caught the rebels between two fires, inflicting heavy loss, and capturing flocks, many arms, and 20 prisoners. The chief British losses were through Boer treachery in firing on the ambulance-bearers.
