CHARGE AGAINST A GOVERNMENT OFFICER.

(PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, May 31. At the Supreme Court last night, a charge against Harry Albert Eversleigh, formerly a clerk in the Government Roads and Survey Department, of falsifying his books with intent to defraud was concluded after two days' hearing. Accused had control of an imprest account, and it was alleged that certain moneys received between 1897 and 1899, amounting to £412, were not accounted for. lhe jury returned a verdict of Guilty, and prisoner was remanded for sentence. Other charges of theft were withdrawn.
