Four foreigners were killed and many woundedj It is believed that Russia hoped to seize a position controlling the Pei-bf River by a pretext of crushing the Boxers. America and Germany, however, prevented this, inri«tiwg qq international intervention. A LARGE NUMBER OF WARSHIPS OFF TAKU. Ill' 'SIAN TROOPS IN FORCE. (Received 3, 6 p.m.) Honu Kono, June 2. The Tsung-Li-Yamen reluctantly admitted one hundred marines from each Power to guard the embassies at Pekin. There are 23 warships assembled off Taku. Eleven thousand troops are aboard nine Russian warships.
