BRITISH INVASION OF THE TRANSVAAL.
JOHANNESBURG CAPTURED. (Received 30,12.54 p.m.) London, May 29. It is officially announced that Johannesburg is captured. A REPORT FROM LORD ROBERTS. NO SERIOUS OPPOSITION. THE ENEMY SURPRISED. BRITISH SECURE THE RAILWAYS. (Received 30,11.20 p.m.) London, May 30. Lord Roberts telegraphs from Germiston, a suburb of Johannesburg, on Tuesday evening, that he arrived, and waß not seriously opposed, There were no casualties to the main column, and he trusts that there were few amongst the cavalry and mounted. The FieldMarshal goes on to state : " The enemy did not expect; us until to-morrow, and, therefore, had not removed all their rolling stock. We are in possession of the railway junction connecting Johannesburg with Natal, Pretoria, and Klerksdorp, Johannesburg ig reported quiet. I understand that the mines are uninjured. I shall summon the commandants in the morning, and if, as I expect, we shall be unopposed, we will enter the town with all troops at noon. The clemency extended to the Natal and other rebels is entirely provisional, awaiting the Queen's decision." OCCUPATION OF ZEERUST. A LARGE FORCE MARCHING ON LICHTENBURG. . (Received 30, 9.10 a m.)
