1 OAMARU V. UNION. ' [PER PJBESS ASSOCIATION.] Donedin, May 24. The football match Oamaru v. Union Olub, playtd this morning, resulted in a draw, tach scoring three points. STAR I. V. TUKAPA I. j The first important match of the season j between the two rival local teams at-1 tracted a large concourse to the Recreation Grounds on Thursday. Needless to say the partiaons of each team in- ! dulged in the usual ncisy " barracking," the shouting being by no meanconfined to the juveniles, for several grey-headad enthusiasts were very prominent in their successful attempts to appear temporarily sfflicted with inability to maintaia a rational course of conduct. From fitst to la-st the gimo was decidedly rougb, and was, as a i rule, lacking in that skill in " passing" which probibly will ba attained later on in the season. The Tukapa team were decidedly the heavier and fit,tor team of the two, so much so was this evident that it was felt even by the partisans of the Slars that victory for their side was hopeless, and for the first half of the play seemed to be the case. The heavy weights of the Tukapa forwards, coupled with their dash, told greatly, although little scoring was done. On changing sides, the Stars made a very determined effort, and a very clear piece of work by Beckett (the one brilliant piece of passing in the match) resulted in a goal for Star. Tukapa evidently felt that it wag their turn to score a goal, and after some very dashing but furious" play they succeeded in getting a try, which was converted into a goal. Star quickly responded, and after a splendid run by Beckett they Foored anothor goal. Tlio play then became very hot, and Tukapa made a deaporata fight, but thanks to one of their own men, who had been previously cautioned, a free kick was allowed, and a penalty goal acoted by S. Stroud for Stars, amidst tremendous cheering, There were only a few minutes left before the call {jf ti»e, but during the interval both sides played furiously, some admirable passing being dome on both sides.
