AUSTRALIAN FEDERATION. «, BANQUET TO THE DELEGATES. [PER P3ES3 ASSOCIATION.] (Received 22, 5 p.m.)

Cambridge Liberals banquetted the Federal delegates, the Right Hon. -J. Morlcy presiding. The latter said iie hoped the federation set lement would leave not a ragged edge. The Hon. E. Barton declared that the present difference was one of stand point only, and susceptible o* adjustment. The Hon. J. It. Dickson 1 championed the Government, and protested against breaking one of the links with the Empire.
SPEECH BY MR. CHAMBERLAIN. A SATISFACTORY AGREEMENT, (Received 22,11.30 p.m.) London, May 21
In the House of Commons, Mr. Chamberlain said it was evident that Queeasland and Westralia preferred the original amendment, but the Government were unable to take sides on the matter, which was best discussed and settled by the colonies themselves. He hoped the Bill would pass unanimously. In the full conviction that the securing of Australian unity did not impair Imperial integrity, the House could contemplate the consummation of a great achievement without the slightest drawback to the pride felt in the wisdom and patriotism of their Australian kinsmen.
The House and galleries were crowded. Xing Oscar of Sweden, the federal delegates, and many Australians were present, and manifested the greatest interest.
There was pt-jlonged cheering in the Chamber when Mr. Chamberlain announced the satisfactory agreament arrived at.
Mr, Chamberlain acknowledged that the four delegates bad exhibited great consideration, resulting in an uuam mous agreement, leaving Australia, absolutely free to adopt iiw own course where her interests were concerned. The agreement ya,va the Imperial Government all she ever asked, with enormous advantages. It was equally satisfactory to the delegates, who had written thanking him for so tar accepting the Bill without alteration,
