A Bill, prepared by the Marquis of Lansdowne, to enable volunteers to agree to service at home or abroad at &ny time, was read m the Souse of Commons a first time. Sydney, May 19. The Stockton miners have resolved, in order to force the hands of the proprietors to raise the price of coal, that the number of working days of coal miners be restricted to four weekly. The idea is thus to receive as much or more for four days' work as they now do for six. Mr. Lyne has let fall remarks which hint at the appointment of General Hutton as first Federal Commandant. Northern coal owners bring the increased selling price of coal into operation at the beginning of next year. Melbouhne, May 21. The Premier has received the outline of the proposed Colonial Investment of Stocks Bill, the terms of which will shortly be made public. (Received 22, 1.12 a.m.) * Sydney, May 21. The colonials have agreed to take the census on March 31.
