[PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Received 25, 9.40 a.m. Washington, April 24. A joint Oommitteo of the American House adopted a Bill providing for laying a Pacific cable by private enterprise. Constantinople, April 24, An explosion occurred on board the Turkish torpedo boat Soham at Beyrout, while the crew were testing the searchlight. The vessel sank almost immediately, and thirty of the crow were drowned. London, April 24. General Neville Chamberlain, an old Indian officer, has been promoted to the rank of Field-Marshal, Brisbane, April 25. I Writs have been issued by Mr. Daiius Hunt, of Toowoomba, against Mosfcrs. Hari, Morehead, and Webster, directors, and Unmack, auditor, of the Queensland National Bank. The cause of action is set- forth as a claim for damages ngaiust defendants for signing and issuing false reports and balancesheets and misrepresentation of t-ho affairs of the Bank, whereby plaintiff was induced to purchase shares.
