PASSAGE OF TROOPS BY THE BEIRA ROUTE.
PORTUGAL'S REPLY TO REITZ. (Received 21,9.5 a.m.) Lisbon, April 20. Mr. T. W. Eeitz, Transvaal State Secretary, has protested angrily to the Portuguese Government against British forces being allowed to pass through Portuguese territory by the Beira route. Portugal replied that consent was in accordance with the 1891 treaty. The Portuguese Minister for Foreign Affairs informed the Oortes that none of the Powers had protested with regard to the matter, and no protest was expected.
