The Daily Teleyrcph, in urging the acceptance of the Cape cable, says that when the subsidy expires in a few weeks, the Eastern Extension Company will be under no obligation to maintain the present tariff and can raise the rates !as it pleases; if it chose to go so far it could even refuse to transmit messages. Fortunately it is not too late for HtW South Wales and Victoria to repair the mistake. They will have the opportunity of repairing it at the Melbourne Premiers' Conference,
