They marched 500 miles over heavy roads during unprecedented rains, averaging 100 miles a week. The men and horsoa endured the hardships well. Eight New Zealandera, under Lieut. Ciawehaw, entered Kenhardt unopposed on April Ist, captured nine n<b« Ik, many rifles, and 16,000 rounds of ammunition.
