THE FIGHT AT WEPENER.

One thousand of the enemy, with eight guns, two pompoms, and two maxims, surrounded Colonel Dalgetty, who made a gallanbjtesistance. The shell -*nd rifle fire was continuoiis on Tuesday and Thursday, and the British artillery fire was terrific. Colonel Dalgetty, by means of a sortie, captured one of the enemy's guns. Field-Marshal Lord Roberts reports that the enemy's movement towards the south is checked. Wepener is still surrounded, but the garrison is resisting, and troops are now advancing to assist them. THIS BESIEGERS DESPONDENT. (Received 17, 1.30 ajn.) Loudon, April 16. The fighting at Wepener lasted four days. The British had 18 killed and 132 wounded. 'The besiegers are fatigued and des- , pondent, and greatly fear that they will be surrounded. Several of their guns have been disabled, and four of their commandants , Wounded, , A RELIEVING FORCE. j Received 17, 1.30 a.ni. Lohdoh, April 16. Major-General Brabant's Division ctarted on Saturday from Aliwal North for Rouiville, and will thence proceed to Wepener.
