THE OUTBREAK IN SYDNEY. [By Klmtkio Tblmgraph Copyright.] (PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Received 5,9.55 a m. Sydney, April 5. The President of the Board of Health points oat that the plague mortality so far is not much more than thirty per cent., a remarkably low rate compared with other countries. The disease here is comparatively mild, and after all iB a lees serious matter than typhoid. The latter is always with us. A HOPEFUL MEDICAL VIEW. (Received 5,11.30 p.m.) Sydney, April 5. The doctors are taking a more hopeful view of the outbreak of the plague. In accordance with experience it should have reached an epidemic stage, and instead of a few there ought to be a large number ef cases daily. They are sanguine that the energetic measures taken have had the effect of keeping down the outbreak. TWO MORE DEATHS. ANOTHER CASE REPORTED. (Received 5, midnight.) Sydney, April 5. Wells and Smith are dead. A man named Hill, residing at Faddington, and emplojed in Sussexstreet, has been attacked by plague. The Government have engaged Dr. Harvey, belonging to a vessel recently arrived from the East, who has had large plague experience in Bombay. At the request of a number of city warehousemen, who will pay the expenses, the Government will appoint an expert inspector to direct fumigation and other precautionary measures of their premises. Some Insurance Companies anannounce that they have added plague to the list of diseases covered by accident policies, STILL ANOTHER CASE.
Received C, 1.22 a.m. Sydney, April 5. An additional case of plague is reported, a child named Riwlinson, at Paddisgtoa. Dead rats were found in the house.
PRECAUTIONS ELSEWHERE. (Received 5, 10.5 a.m) Melbourne, April 5. The Postmaster-General has protaeted to Mr. Crick against Sydney ■ending clothes through the post, as likely to introduce the plague. He notifies that these parcels will not be delivered, but returned. Brisbane, April 5.
The Government has received 500 doses of plague serum, and intend obtaining 10,000 more.
