THE CABLE QUESTION.

EASTERN EXTENSION COMPANY MAKES AN OFFER. [FEB PEESS ASSOCIATION.] Received 29,10.15 a.m. Melbourne, March 29. Mr. Warren, in an interview with .the Postmaster-General, said the Eastern Extensl n Company was willing to forego terminal rights until the Pacific or any other Government cable was laid, but asked the right to reduce rates to compete with any cable, other than a Government cable, that might be laid. It is understood that Mr. Crick's objection to this is that the Company might reduce rates to render the laying of a Pacific cable unremunerative and prejudice its possible construction.
