and taken part in Saturday** sond-offj The Railway Department estimated that 30,000 had arrived in town by mid day by Pa il. The Department carried 15,000, exclusive of volunteers, to Port Chalmers. Mr. Arthur, the traffic manager, has been oomplimented by the Minister on the manner in which the heavy traffic was coped with. CuaisTCHuacH, March 27. The Canterbury section of the Fifth Contingent left the camp at Addington to-day, and embarked on the steamer Mamari, which is expected to get away from Lyttelton for Wellington shortly after ten o'clock this evening, The men were entertained at luncheon n the Opera House by the Canterbury War Fund Committee. The Premier and the Hon. W. Hall-Jonas were among those present. The streets were crowded, and shops and places of business were closed during part of the afternoon, and flags and bunting were. displayed everywhere.
