A RETIREMENT. (Received 24, 9.10 a.m.) London, March 23. Ihe that Colonel Plumer, after a reconnaissance at- Ramatllabama, retired atj, night to Crocodile Pools, his base. His hospital haa been removed to Gaberones. GENERAL METHUEN'S MOVEMENTS. BOER GUNS SILENCED. (Received 24, 9.10 a.m.) London, March 23. A reconnaissance at Fourteen Streams on March 21st resulted in an artillery duel, which lasted the whole morning. Eventually the Boer guns were silenced. MAFEKING CAN HOLD OUT FOR THREE WEEKS. (Received 25, G p.m.) London, March 24. Lieut.-General Lord Methuen has secured an important crossing east of Fourteen Streams. A new punt is in readiness, and reinforcements are being hurried forward with a view to crossing and outflanking the Boers. There are indications that Mafeking can hold out for three weeks. A battle is imminent near Maseru. THE ENEMY IN POSITION. (Received 25, 6 p.m.) London, March 24. The enemy, with four guns, hold a ridge across the Yaal River, facing Warrenton.
