NEW SOUTH WALES COAL TRADE.
DISSATISFIED MINERS. [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received 21, 11.30 p.m.) Sydney, March 21. A meeting of miners representative of the various coal mining districts decided to take concerted action to obtain an increase in the selling price of coal, and that in the event of the coal owners declining to meet tbe men in conference on the matter other steps i should be taken.
A deputation from the meeting interviewed the Premier, and urged the appointment of a Royal Commission to enquire into the whole question of the coal trade; also eight hours for miners and compulsory arbitration. A statement was made that unless the Government took action a general strike is at hand. Mr. Lyne, the Premier, said that before taking the extreme step of appointing a Commission he would see if some arrangement could not be arrived at. Compulsory arbitration would be one of the first measures introduced next session. In reply to a suggestion that the Govern-1 ment start a State coal mine he said 'he idea would be difficult to carry out, but Government would go a great nay to prevent a strike.
