David Witjas, a Belgian diamond merchant, who, under the name of Solomon Davit, was fined £2OO at Melbourne for smuggling £2OOO worth of diamonds, and subsequently arrested for their theft, was brought up at the Mansion Souse. As the prosecutor—- > another diamond merchant—refused to ' proceed, the ease was dismissed.
