THE NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION.
[PEE PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, March 19. The Premier has sent the following letter to the Secretary of the National Dairy Association" lam extremely sorry to find that in the emergency which has arisen, and there being a necessity for the Government to obtain the services of the Waimate for taking troops to the Cape, dairy produce will be detained for some little time. It is my desire that you communicate this to your principals, for I feel sure that they will understand that this would not have occurred if there had been any possible way out of the difficulty; and I must appeal to their patriotism and hope that the Shaw-Savill and New Zealand Shipping Companies will be exonerated from all blame. It was an emergency that had to be met. I trust any little loss or inconvenience will be compensated for by the object for which the boat has been obtained." The Waimat? has been chartered to convey the Fifth Contingent to South Africa.
