POLLARD'S OPERA COMPANY.
A gaowDED house greeted the above , popular company on Monday evening, when the season was brought to a close by the production of Audran's latest and greatest comic opera, "LxPoupee." The piece was staged in the usual Pollardian style of excellence, and from rise to fall of cuitaio the utmost enthusiasm prevailed. Miss May Beatty, as Alesia, was charming, and her acting and singing were a feature of the performance. As Lancelot, Mr. Charles Carter sang and acted very nicely, being onoored for several of his vocal items. Mr. E. Fitts (Father Maximo) was heard to advantage in the numbers " To-morrow will be Friday " and " A Jolly Friar," and he acted well up to his part throughout. Mr. W. S. Percy, as Hilftrius, was 6imply perfect. His acting throughout was extra-} ordinar'!y clever, and he mus"; take rank with the front row of comedians. Messrs. Stephens and Quealy were extremely funny, and the other parts were well played. The Pollards are general favourites in New Plymouth, and their next visit will ba eacerlv lom fOfWMd to, 87
