THE QUESTION OF THE CABLES.

The Postmaster-General has received ft cable from tho Premier of Oaßada protesting against the granting of r. concession to tho E Extension Co., adding that ho cannot c-haio ih<; responsibility involved in gianung concessions. The Pcstmaster-Geueral hits also received a message from Mr. Crick, stating that he is prepared to accept the suggestion of Yictoria concerning the opening of offices, that the company pay so much per word instead of rental. (Receied 27,11.40 p.m.) Sydney, February 27. The Postmaster-General, explaining the position of the proposals to a deputation of labor members, said there were three outside critics of the Cape route, viz., Canada, which had nothing in common witb these colonic, us sue had fourteen lines of commutua.<xiou with Europe, and was therefore more independent than Australia; then there was New Zealand, who did not know what she wanted, and has stood aside from the negotiations; and Queensland, which had a boe m her bonnet against the Eastern Extension Company. All tho other colonies favored the Cape cable.
