EDUCATION BOARD.

The Education Board met on Wednesday. Present: Mr. McAllum (chairman), Miss Hey wood, Messrs. Wade, Faull, Mackay, Outfield, Hignett, and Adlam. ' The Architect submitted plans for a new school at IJrenui and new residence at Eltham Road ; also for additions to Central School residence, Upland Road School, and Salisbury Road School.—Tenders are to be called for the works. The Selection Committee submitted their report on applications received for vacancies, and recommended the following names to the committees:

Carrie (Matau) Messrs, Faull and Hignett were appointed a committee to arrange with the Urinui C -mmittea for disposal of bh > old school building. The secretary of the High School au'.ihid that Mary Roberta, Maud Oonnett, Leslie liili, and Albert U'easdale had, on the recommendation of the Inspector, been granted two years' free tuition. The plan and estimate for shelter -.lied submitted by the Kuimate committee was referred to the Architect to j report upon. A letter frcm the Ngaire committee dealing with the last examination report and the state of the school was refoiwd to the Inspector,

Mr. McGregor wrote inquiring whether the scholarship held by his son at Stratford High School could be transferred to Gisborne, whither he had removed; but the Board's scholarships are tenable only at New Plymouth and Stratford. The Stanley Road Committee requested that the lease of the school site should be transferred to them. The matter wag referred to Mr. Mackay to report upon. The request preferred by the Ratapiko Committee for a stable for the teacher's horse could not be entertained, as the Board's funds are not available for such a purpose. A grant of £2 was voted towards gravelling the path to the Rowan Road school. It was notified that the owner of the Durham Road school site (Mr. Joe Oorney) was willing to hand over the section to the Board on transfer being carried out at the Board's expense. This was agreed to. The whole of the correspondence relative to the pupil teacher at Tikorangi is to be forwarded to the Committee for their report. Mrs, Orossby, sewing teacher at Cardiff, was granted one month's leave of absence on account of illness. A letter from W. L. Tocker, relative to two passes to the Stratford High School, was referred to Mr. Penn for his remarks. A further sum of £1 5s was granted for an additional 3£ chains of fencing at Uruti subject to certain conditions. The applications of Messrs R. Norrinh and M. Houlihan, to lease section 9, block 11, Huiroa, and section 1, block 1, Omona, respectively, were complied with on the usual terms.

Mr. Allsworth's report on the Punewhakau district was adopted, and a hearty vote of thanks tendered him for the same. His report on the school required at Mangaehu Road was referred to the Chairman and Mr. Alls worth, with a recommendation to submit the same, with any explanations deemed advisable, to the Minister of Education, and to urge on the Minister the necessity of having the educational wants of the settlers in that district supplied with as little delay as possible. Miss Hey wood was requested to visit section 20, block 13, Waitara, occupied by Mr. Storring, and report to the Boa*d. The Board rose.
