In the December number of " The Royal Magazine" (Pearson's) appears a story entitled " A Repentant Rogue," by Mr. fidgar M. Dell, ot isew Plymouth. It is prettily told, and, as the scene is laid in New Zealand, it should prove highly interesting to colonial readers. The story conveys a moral, as showing the deterrent elfeot true lovehas over the vicious inclinations to which human nature, through necessitous circumstances, is at times prone. To get a contribution accepted by Pearson's requires that the subject be not only interesting, but that the scory be well told; ami in tnis Mr. Delt has been very happy. We congratulate him on his success, and trust that his pen will not be idle in the future.

Sykes' Cura Cough, if taken as soon as tlie cold manifests itself, will break up any form of cold in a few hours. Hundreds of testimonials from all parts of New Zealand. Bold by chemists and storekeepers in Is fid and 2s bottles.—A. E. Slices, Chemist, opposite Theatre Royal, New Plymouth.— Advt.
The Good Dih Young.—Unlike most popular sayings, this has very little truth in it. Experience every day proves that some at least af the good are spared to make the! world brighter and better, and a more pleasant to live in. In fact, our experience is that good people, and good things generally, live the longest. For example, consider the thousands of articles which have been widely advertised and are i now forgotten. Why 1 Because they were bad. On the other hand, we have Holloway's Pills and Ointment, which have proved the faithful friend of poor humanity for iifty years and more. Why'! Because tbey are good. Of a truth, that which is good soed not die, but lives for ail time. —Advt.
