IS INFLUENZA CURABLE?

IN tho British Medical Journal of March ISth, 1899, Dr. Joseph Came Boss, M.D., Edinburgh, Physician to Ancoats Hospital, Manchester, writing about the epidemics ot' influenza that have occurred during tho last live years, pins his faith to tho Cinnamon Cure. In February, 18117, ho treated hundreds of eases, and always with tho result that the patients were cured in 2or 3 days Again, in 18H8, he says that his patients were usually able to return to work in 48 hours at'te commencing the Cinnamon Cure, CINNAMON CUKE, Price, 2s. 6d.; from all chemists and grocers. A STARTLING TEST, IMPORTANT TO ALL HOUSE, HOLDERS, WELSBAOH INCANDESCENT GAS LIGHT Y. ELECTRICITY. COMPARATIVE COST, LIGHT FOR LIGHT: AS 6d IS TO 3a 6d. IN order to test tUu quantity of Gas consuoio.l by the Welsoaeh Incandesce at Burner, which is oomuig so rapidly into ose in Wellington, which is extensively use I in Auckland, both for household and street,l.ghtiog purposes, and which is practically universal in Sydney, A TEST was made in Wellington on the evening of the Bth September last, and tho results were recorded, showing tho relative cost of the gas consumed by a Welsbach Burner in pioducing a given intensity of light as compared with the cost of electricity producing an exactly similar degree of illumination. Several gentlemen holding impoitmt official positions in Wellington were present, and the test was carried out in the following manner:— A 60 Candle-power electric lamp was placed at a distance of 12 feet from a Welauach Incandescent Gas Light. A maik at equal distances from tho two lights was accurately lixed between them, and a white card was placed upright on the mark between tho two lights. It was fouLd ihat the light from the Incandescent, Gas Lamp threw much tho stronger shadow. The power of tiie iClectric Lamp was theu increised by too addition of al6-c<uidle power lamp, and the result was that tiie shaco-v thrown was tben fjightly in favour of the .Electric L'gut, but tho diiierence was sj small that it was agreed to accept the final test as tantamount to equality. Subsequent examination ot tho qualities cotuuaud of each illumiaant gava the following comparison 8. <3. 1 G6-Candle Power Electric Light, burning 2-1 hours, i 2 7 uuits, at lOd per unit, turning 2-1 hours 3 Q 0-7 I Welsoaeh Incandescent Gis Burner, Riving a ligutequil to tiie abive, and burning 21 hours 83 cuDic feet, at Us ad per 100 cubic feet ... ._ 0 6 3-7 The test, th. refore,. .shows the startling difference Detweea the respective cost ot these methods of lighting, viz.:— A taring ot' 3s 0 3-7 d per 2*l hours uponevery burner giving a light equal to Oti Candle-power, and ev.in were the cost of Electricity to bo reduced to lid per unit, the Welsbach Gas burner would still show a saving of over Is 7d per 21 hours for every bnruar of (i(S Candle-power. One of the Welsbach Incandescent Gttsl Burner suffices to br.Uuntly illuminate any j ordinary room. It is a p-3if:ctly steady j light, and can be readily fixed to any exist-' iug gas fittings. it Ouviates all the Defects that havo been alleged to KCJompany thi use of Gas where in large estab'isLm' nts a very great number of burners are necessary. Tne principle of its construction ensures perfect combustion, so that there is no Vitiation of the Atmowpheio, no Free Carbon is thrown off, and no injury is caused to CeilingF, iicrjra, yr i'&per.
