(Received 7, (i p.m.) Capetown, January 6, In view of the re-opening of communication by means of the Bothas Drift by a waggon bridge, one thousand Boers, at 5 o'clock on Thursday morning, attacked the British left Hank three miles north of Colesberg, A squadron of the Inniskilling , Dragoons charged clean through the enemy, killing seven of them. The Boers then ascended a small kopje, and lired volleys. Two companies of the Berkshire] Regiment and half a battalion of the j Suliblks replied hotly, and four guns ot the Horse Artillery shelled the enemy's position, driving them into cover. The enemy's two Maxims and two Vickers' quick-firers fired heavily into the 10th Hussars and the Horse Artillery. The British ii;f.uitry meanwhile poured in a hot firu. The mounted troops, at 9 a.m., diamonted and charged the enemy, killing fifty of them and capturing nineteen. Major Harvey, of the luth Hussars, was killed, aud Major Alexander w.-is i wounded. The British casualties were

small. The Boers then withdrew to Colesburg, but are still in strongth to the south-east.

The New South Wales Lancers participated in the fight, and their dash and wiliness helped to disconcert the Boers. The Boers at Colesberg, on Monday, lost fifty killed.
