THE BUBONIC PLAGUE.
• ♦ [PER PBESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received 4, 9.40 a.m.) Melbourne, January 4, In consequence of the plague at Noumea, the Government has proclaimed the Polynesian Islands, Madagascar, and Seychelles Group as infected, and have asked the Indian Government to supply plague vaccine. (Received 4,11.20 p.m.) I Sydney, January 4. The Premier has received a report from the .British Consul at Noumea that between Christmas Day and January 2nd there were fourteen cases of plague and ten deaths. A small supply of propkylactic reached Sydney last night. The Noumea authorities have asked for a portion of it, and the Government is considering the matter.
Wellington, Januaiy 4. New Caledonia and India have been proclaimed infected places, and tlie health officers throughout the colony have bean warned to take precautions J in the event of vessels arriving from either of these places. Tfte health authorities here received no advice of a Nineveh passenger being transferred to the Moana. As the term of quarantine must almost have expired, and the passenger was not a patient, they consider, if the action, as cable J, is correct, that it is not irregular.
