FRENCH EXPEDITIONS TO CHINA AND AFRICA.
[PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received 4, 9.20 a.m.) Paris, January 3. News has been received that a force of French marines was landed in the Montao district, Southern China, and defeated 1500 Chinese troops, killing two hundred. The French casualties ■were fifteen. The French expedition in Central Africa, under M. Foureau and Commandant Lamy, which was reported to , have met with a disaster, is safe. The leader of the expedition is sanguine i that a large direct trade, with Algeria . as a centre, will be opened.
