“Taranaki Central Press” SATURDAY, JULY 3, 1 937. LAST ISSUE OF THE CENTRAL PRESS
To-day the “Taranaki Central Press” will be issued for the last time. It had been hoped that the announcement made on Wednesday would have brought from businessmen in Stratford a measure of advertising support that would have enabled the weekly loss to be reduced, and the paper thus to be continued. Such, however, was not the case, and no alternative is left but the cessation of publication. This announcement is made net only with regret, but with a full realisation of what it will mean to the town and district. It was this consciousness of the necessity of a local daily newspaper for the community that caused the di.-ectors of the firm to continue publication as long as yvas practically possible. Rumours that the Taranaki Central Press Ltd., intends going out of business have no semblance of truth. Although the daily paper is being dropped the company’s other publication the Taranaki Weekly, will continue to be published as usual, while the job printing business will also be retained. Support of these two branches of activity is earnestly sought. To cur advertisers and subscribers we convey our thanks and appreciation of a very pleasant business relationship.
