From Maungaturoto to the northern railhead the line was blocked by slips, flood waters arid washouts, and it will be some time before comrnunication is fully re-er. 1 - tablished. The biggest slip is between Waiotira and Tauraroa, where the line is buribd to a depth of 40 feet for a distance of 60 feet. North of Whangarei is a long succession of slips and washouts, the most severe of tire latter being at Hikurangi. All low-lying parts of the line are under water, in some places to a depth of six feet. The time when communication will be restored 'depends entirely upon the weather.
