TARANAKI BOWLING

CENTRE ACTIVITIES Conduct Of Tournaments An excess of revenue over expenditure, the success of tournaments and the visit by a large party of Auckland bowlers were features of the report submitted to the annual ; meeting of the Taranaki Bowling Centre at Stratford last night. Mr J. Lobb presided over nearly 40 club delegates. The accounts submitted with the report disclosed a small excess of revenue over expenditure of £4 15s after writing off £1 8s depreciation on the centre’s shields and other property. The new year tournament showed a profit of £8 14s 3d while the open and pairs tournament showed a small loss of £1 Ils sd. This loss, though small, could be attributed directly to the pairs tournament held in conjunction with the open tournament. The centre expenses were kept down to a minimum and comI 1 pared favourably with other years. The only liability was an outstanding trophy order, of £3 3s, while the assets, inclusive of cash at banks, [amounted to £264 4s 2d. | One of the largest parties of AuckI land bowlers yet to tour visited Tara- | naki early in March of this year and | spent a full week in Taranaki, the reI port stated. The tour was arranged |so that every club in Taranaki was i given an opportunity to play against | the visitors. The visitors were enthusiastic about the reception given to : them. The tour concluded with a re- [ union game on the West End green i and a social evening at New Ply- | month.

The new year tournament conformed to the usual standard, drawing 42 rinks from the clubs throughout the I centre. The open tournament drew . entries of 44 rinks from Wanganui. Terrace End, Woburn and most of i the clubs in the Taranaki centre. The ; pairs tournament drew entries from ■ 46 pairs, being a small reduction on i last year’s entries. The membership of all clubs in i Taranaki was 1240, almost every club showing an increase. The present membership was 120 above last year’s ■ and in excess of any year since 1922. Thanks were accorded the secretarv, Mr A. Adam, and all others who hetpi ed in any way. The election of officers resulted: ! President. Mr J. Lobb; vice-president, | Messrs. J. Goodwin and W. W. Thomson; executive. Messrs. H. Dickinson, I F. Julien, N. ’T„ rr o y . R T petty, A. ■K. Smart and F. E. Clarke; ’ auditor, ;Mr Dinniss Mr E. Petty was com igratulated on his election to the New j Zealand council. ! It was decided that the new year i tournament be played on the same I basis as last year: that the open I tournament section play comprise I two games of 25 heads a day with i three of 21 heads for the post-section j Play; that the entry fee for the pairs • tournament be raised to 15s and that | the singles competion be conducted j on the same basis but on Saturday. j Conveners appointed to call meetj ings of club delegates in the divisions i were Messrs N. Murray (south). A. Dickinson (central), A. K. Smart (north) and F. Julian (west). Mr A. Tiplady urged the reduction of the shield competition from two i rounds to one. With the general SaturI day half-holiday he said, the Eltham i club found that the only way to give I members regular bowling was to j play them in shield games because it ■ was not possible to play shield and | club games on the same day. i That was a question that could be I decided for every division by the I meeting of delegates of divisonal I clubs. Mr Lobb said. The divisional ; meetings could make adjustments ■ according to the wishes of clubs. | Arrangements will be made on the j same basis as last year, divisional I committees to make allowance for j their needs. ■ The secretary was given an extra |£s 5s honorarium, making the • amount £36 15s, members commendi ing his efficiency and consideration ; for the various divisions. |
