CAUTION, PATIENCE AND RESTRAINT
PRIME MINISTER’S APPEAL FOREIGN SITUATION DELICATE Possibility of Anglo-Japanese Understanding | (British Official Wireless.) (Received 1.30 p.m.) s Rugby, June 25. During a debate in the House- of Commons on foreign affairs, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Anthony Eden, stressed the possibility ol a better Anglo-Japanese understanding in the near future, and stated that the question of a Pacific Peet of nonaggression would have to be approached with some circumspection. However, they hoped shortly to make preliminary soundings among the interested Governments. He considered' that the- Labour Party’s demand for the termination of the non-intervention policy in Spain was a mistake, and might lead to unlimited competition in arms and men, with the danger of a clash between outside Powers. Britain was not going, to contemplate a breakdown of non-intervention until they bad seen what possibilities there were in the new and more difficult situation confronting them. Mr Neville Chamberlain made an appeal for caution, patience and' restraint in the interests of European peace.
